Wawa to Celebrate Milestone
WAWA, Pa. -- When Wawa Inc. rolled out its fuel program in 1996, the retailer knew it was opening the door to many new challenges in an ultra competitive market. Now, six years later, the Wawa, Pa.-based chain is getting ready to celebrate the grand opening of its 100th gas store in Newport News, Va., and the company couldn't be happier with the concept it's developed.
The 5,600-square-foot unit, scheduled to open in July, is larger than many of its previous stores, which measure approximately 4,700 square feet. The convenience center will feature eight multi-pump dispensers and Wawa's popular Hoagie foodservice program.
Howard Stoeckel, executive vice president of marketing for Wawa, said the vast majority of new stores will include the fuel prototype. "This concept is another step that helps us simplify our customers' lives, which is our core purpose." he told CSNews Online yesterday. "Our formula offers customers a combination of food and fuel, easy access in and out of the stores and great service. It's been a winning combination."
The store will be Wawa's 100th in Virginia and increases the company's store count to 543.
