Wawa Looks to Pump Up Sales
WAWA, Pa.
Wawa Inc., operator of 510 convenience stores, has partnered with Austin, Texas-based Wincor Nixdorf Inc., a provider of technology solutions to the retail and banking industries, to provide a dual-screen point-of-sale (POS) solution for installation in Wawa's new convenience stores across the Northeastern United States.
To satisfy Wawa's requirements, Wincor Nixdorf teamed with leading software provider Triversity Inc. to design a next generation POS solution capable of delivering a full screen of easily viewed information at both the operator and customer locations. By leveraging the multiple monitor support built into Windows 2000 and years of POS expertise, the pair was able to create a highly graphical and OPOS-compliant solution without the added cost and complexities of proprietary hardware.

The selected POS solution will include the Wincor Nixdorf BEETLE/S POS system with digital touch display for the cashier and VGA display for the customer. Powered by Triversity's Transactionware POS application, each of the two screens connected to the BEETLE/S terminal can display distinctly different content, allowing the store clerk to view the transaction, while the customer views promotional information or advertising, in addition to detailed information about the purchase.
All of the BEETLE/S systems to be installed will run on the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system and be connected to Wawa's gas pumps using Allied Electronics? ANDI boxes. In addition to the BEETLE/S, Wincor Nixdorf will supply a full set of peripheral devices and perform staging and integration services. A full-service on-site maintenance program will be facilitated through Triversity.
