Famima!! Opens Store in Arcadia

ARCADIA, Calif. -- While the store opened in May, the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce hosted the grand opening of a Famima!! convenience store here Aug. 21, reported the Pasadena Star-News.

The launch coincides with the Japanese-owned convenience store chain’s new campaign, which includes state-wide radio advertisements and additional locations slated for opening, executive vice president Hidenari Sato told the paper.

"It’s a very nice location right in the middle of where all the people commute," Sato told the paper of the Arcadia store. "If we are successful (in Arcadia), we would like to expand more within that area."

With a total of 13 stores in California, the newest store joins two other locations recently opened in the Los Angeles and Orange county areas, including stores in Lakewood and Fountain Valley. The company, which opened it first store in 2005, is somewhat unknown in the region, but its parent company FamilyMart Co. operates approximately 3,000 stores throughout Asia.

The aforementioned radio advertising campaign is aimed at addressing some of the misconceptions about Famima!! such as it’s clientele and products offerings, Sato noted.

"Everybody still thinks we are a Japanese specialty convenience store," Sato told the paper, adding "but it’s a one-stop store selling typical convenience store items."
