Groundbreaking to Start Wawa's Move Into D.C.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Wawa Inc. will hold a groundbreaking for its first convenience store in the nation's capital on Sept. 6 at 11:30 a.m.
Located at 1111 19th Street NW, the store is the first of five to 10 c-stores that Wawa plans to open in the area over the next few years, reported the Washington D.C. Patch.
Wawa representatives, local officials, area Wawa charitable and business partners, and members of the community will attend the event, which includes the unveiling of a new store front sign, a mural depicting the start of construction and an announcement that Wawa is officially coming soon.
Attendees will toast the occasion with free Wawa-brand iced teas, lemonades and juices. The retailer will also hold giveaways.
The store will boast 9,200 square feet, making it the largest Wawa location so far and a "one of a kind store," the company said. It will feature the latest in the retailer's offering with an upscale urban feel, indoor and outdoor seating, and an interactive digital experience, as CSNews Online reported.
Wawa operates more than 750 convenience stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Florida.
