Locations of First U.S. Lidl Stores Revealed

ARLINGTON, Va. — Lidl, the German discount grocery retailer, will open its first nine stores in the United States on June 15, and the company has revealed where those stores will debut.

The first U.S. Lidl stores will appear in North Carolina (Kingston, Greenville, Sanford, Rocky Mount, and Winston-Salem); South Carolina (Spartanburg and Greenville); and Virginia (Virginia Beach and Hampton).

The doors of each store will open at 8 a.m. on June 15, following a 7:40 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony. Limited-time, grand-opening special offers will be available, including a complimentary Lidl reusable bag and samples, while supplies last. The retailer is also holding a promotion at each store for the first 100 customers, who will get a wooden coin for the chance to win up to $100 in Lidl gift cards.

“We cannot wait to open our first U.S. stores and introduce customers to grocery shopping refreshed, retooled and rethought to make life better,” said Brendan Proctor, president and CEO of Lidl US. “Every day in our stores, customers will enjoy the smell of Lidl’s freshly baked breads, a selection of sustainable products like our certified fresh and frozen fish, and top-quality wines from around the world available at market-beating prices. Our mission every day is to deliver our customers less complexity, lower prices, better choices and greater confidence.”

Lidl plans to expand stateside to up to 100 stores by the end of 2017. Its stores will be open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Lidl has a reputation overseas for offering products at reduced prices, and that won't be changing at the company's U.S. outposts. Products will be sold for up to 50 percent less than at rival U.S. supermarkets. Lidl is also bringing over its smaller store design, with each store taking up just 20,000 square feet and featuring only six aisles.
