Mountain Dew Reaches New Peak in Georgia

ATLANTA -- Mountain Dew has reached the peak of the proverbial mountain in Georgia.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, PepsiCo claims its citrus-flavored Mountain Dew beverage is now the best selling 20-ounce soda in Georgia convenience stores.

That statement is no small feat considering that Coca-Cola Co. is based in Atlanta.

However, Mountain Dew's "Georgia Loves Dew" campaign -- which includes sponsorships of local events, as well as a website, www.galovesdew.com, featuring discounts and a way for consumers to find the drink at a store in their area -- has helped propel the soda's sales forward, the newspaper reported.

"Our market share data tells us that Georgians love Dew and they know there's nothing else out there like it," Pepsi spokeswoman Gina Anderson told the news outlet. "We see the brand as having even more potential to grow in the region."

Coca-Cola declined to comment for the newspaper's story.
