Phillips to Sponsor Route 66 75th Anniversary

Phillips Petroleum Co., which operates more than 300 Kicks and 66 convenience stores, will pay homage to historic Route 66 by sponsoring its 75th anniversary festivities.

The "mother road" played an integral role in creating the company's familiar 66 trademark. Now Phillips is continuing the relationship by sponsoring the Route 66 75th Anniversary Cruise across Oklahoma, to be held July 13-14, and a Classic Car Show.

"Celebrating Route 66 in Oklahoma is a natural for Phillips, given our home office location and our company trademark, which is based on company lore that a Phillips research car was traveling 66 mph on Route 66 in the early days," said Ron Stanley, Phillips' community relations manager. "We're pleased to help the Oklahoma Route 66 Association draw attention to the historical contribution the mother road has made to this great state and to the rest of the country."
