Sheetz Café Concept Coming to Charlottesville

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Sheetz Inc. will open its fourth Sheetz Café in Charlottesville, replacing a former tavern on the site.

The Sheetz Café concept features the convenience retailer's made-to-order food system and other options and does not have gas pumps. The Charlottesville location will have outdoor seating and add new signage and awnings. Most branding will be inside the store, reported the Cavalier Daily.

"We propose minimal modifications to the exterior of the former Eddy's Tavern space on the Corner," Sheetz wrote in its application.

Members of the Charlottesville Board of Architectural Review approved a certificate of appropriateness for the building facade in January.

"We really can't say anything right now about a proposed opening date just because it's so early in the process," said Sheetz spokesman Nick Ruffner. "The team that's involved in that is moving through the drawing and permitting stage."

The first Sheetz Café opened in 2015 near West Virginia and was followed by other locations near Pennsylvania State University and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Altoona-based Sheetz Inc. operates more than 500 c-stores throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and North Carolina.
