Shell Brings Back Triple Rebate Program

HOUSTON -- Shell Oil Products US reintroduced its credit card incentives for new members of its Shell Platinum MasterCard from Citi Cards. The 60-day introductory offer allows new members to earn triple the rebates on all Shell gasoline, any purchases where MasterCard is accepted and on the first $100 of Jiffy Lube purchases.

Under the new program, cardholders will earn 15 percent of their gas purchases as rebates. With an average fill-up of 13 gallons at $2.35 a gallon, consumers can save more than $4.50 on a $30 purchase. The rebates are automatically applied to a customer's monthly statement as a credit toward future Shell gas purchases.

"Based on the success of the triple rebate program last year we have decided to repeat it to give customers another chance to benefit from this industry-leading promotion," said Elizabeth Hudson, manager of the Shell MasterCard program at Shell Oil Products US. "It demonstrates our dedication to finding innovative ways to offer consumers a way to lower the cost of driving without sacrificing the quality of their fuel."

To promote the triple rebate promotion, Shell will use a national TV and internet advertising campaign. Shell stations will also receive a comprehensive point-of-purchase package, including pump toppers, pole signs and register signs.

"We designed the promotion and the national advertising and communications campaign with two primary objectives in mind: helping to boost traffic at our stations and increase the number of applications for the Shell Platinum MasterCard," said Hudson. "We're committed to supporting our credit card portfolio with marketing incentives that grow accounts, promote customer loyalty and increase sales volumes for our operators."

After the 60-day introductory offer, the rebates will return to the original 5 percent on Shell gasoline and $100 purchases at Jiffy Lube. In addition, the 1 percent rebate on all other purchases will replace the introductory 3 percent offer.

New cardholders that apply from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31 will receive the offer.

In other Shell news, the company has contracted with Gilbarco Veeder-Root's Fuel Management Services to provide environmental permit management across the nation, ensuring that Shell and Motiva’s fuel systems are up to date.

Environmental permit management requires the knowledge of all local and state environmental compliance regulations. "Gilbarco Veeder-Root is able to leverage its scale of operations and specific knowledge of local and state regulations and regulators to ensure that permits are always current and accurate, therefore reducing the possibility of non-compliance," said Greg Sears, marketing director for Gilbarco's Fuel Management Services division, which integrates with existing systems to provide common site equipment configurations, effective gap analysis and timely resolution. It has more than 30,000 sites enlisted in its environmental compliance services, according to Sears.
