Shell's Drive for Five Card Positioned to Save Consumers Money

HOUSTON -- Shell Oil Products US, in partnership with its credit card issuer Citi, is launching the Shell Drive for Five Card, which will offer new cardholders the opportunity to save 5 cents per gallon on Shell-branded fuel.

Shell executives believe the new credit card is one of the first proprietary cards with an everyday offer from an energy company.

New Shell Drive for Five Card cardholders may save 5 cents per gallon on all three grades of Shell Nitrogen Enriched gasoline and Shell diesel when they purchase at least 45 gallons each month, up to 100 gallons, the company noted in a statement.

The card design incorporates Shell Visual Identity standards and is intended to catch consumers' eyes when they open their wallets. It will be publicly unveiled May 3, the day of the launch.

Shell-branded wholesalers will benefit from another zero-merchant-service-fee card they can begin accepting immediately as it operates on existing EPOS hardware and processing networks, the company noted.

The Shell Drive for Five Card will be advertised through point of purchase signage at Shell-branded locations nationwide from May 3 through Aug. 2, 2010. Additional marketing channels will include online, direct mail, radio, print and e-mail; the oil company also will leverage other Shell product and service communications.

Shell Oil Products US, a subsidiary of Shell Oil Co., has a network of approximately 6,100 branded gasoline stations in the Western United States. Shell Oil Co. is an affiliate of the Shell Group.

Royal Dutch Shell plc is incorporated in England and Wales, has its headquarters in The Hague and is listed on the London, Amsterdam and New York stock exchanges.
