Stewart's Shops Uses YouTube on Facebook

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Stewart's Shops enhanced its Facebook presence with short YouTube videos featuring its cow mascot, employees and customers.

Beginning last month, the chain of nearly 330 convenience stores, based here, began promoting its ice cream, fast foods and other signature merchandise and services with the videos. The clips, created with a Flip camcorder and FlipShare software, last from 15 seconds to a few minutes. At press time, the Stewart's Shops Facebook page had close to 3,300 fans.

Among the highlights: a half-gallon ice cream promotion; associates talking about the company's employee stock option plan, what it's like to work for Stewart's and serving the customers; an employee on the newest Stewart's store's grand opening festivities; and the Stewart's cow mascot picking up some snacks, ladling out some chili and selecting a sandwich. It's latest video compares the size of its half-gallons of ice cream to the national brand's smaller packages, reviews how the ice cream is made and lists its top-selling flavors, gives calorie counts and points out how it is made from "fresh, local milk."
