Stripes Commemorates Día de los Muertos
DALLAS — Stripes Convenience Stores is celebrating Día de los Muertos, the Mexican holiday that takes place between Oct. 31-Nov. 2, with the release of two new limited-edition Día de los Muertos commemorative cups.
Stripes partnered with Coca-Cola for its second annual release of the Día de los Muertos cups, which are exclusive to Stripes stores throughout Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. The cups, which are available in Stripes stores now, are priced at $2.99 and include the first fill free.
Each cup was created by a Texas artist: Elisa Kyle Gilp, a south Texas native who specializes in Día de los Muertos art, and Christian Lain, a professional tattoo artist who lives in Corpus Christi. These artists also designed the 2015 cups.
Each artist was given creative freedom to design their own interpretation of the holiday for the cups. Gilp painted an original 16-inch by 20-inch piece and drew her inspiration from her south Texas roots using acrylic paint. Lain used watercolors to design an 8.5-inch by 11-inch original, pulling from the local culture of his home.
Both artists were asked to incorporate the Stripes Stores and Coca-Cola logos in their design. Gilp designed the bright green cup with the "Día de los Muertos" couple and Lain designed the red tumbler with a traditional calavera design.
Stripes operates more than 700 c-stores in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma, with restaurant service available in more than 450 of those locations.
