Tesco Unveils Fresh & Easy Concept

LAS VEGAS -- Today, the United Kingdom's largest retailer -- Tesco -- gave invited guests a view inside the company's U.S. division with an official announcement of its preliminary store locations here, and a presentation of its exterior store design for its Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market chain, which is expected to open later this year on the West Coast.

The announcement, at the Wynn Resort in Las Vegas, allowed Fresh & Easy CEO Tim Mason to reveal some on the company's regional growth plans and emphasize the company's commitment to high quality and affordable goods, in addition to its benefits as a neighbor and employer.

Published reports in the Las Vegas Business Press stated that six new stores are planned for the Las Vegas market. The first, located at 8650 W. Tropicana Ave., was acquired by the company through a 20-year, $4.7 million lease to occupy 14,253 square feet of space inside Gatski Commercial's 8-acre complex, the report stated.

However, the six sites, which have "location suitability applications" filed with the Clark County Business Licensing Department, have not been approved to date, according to county spokesperson Stacey Welling.

"No business licenses have been approved at this point," Welling told the paper. Three of the locations have received preliminary board approval.

Other sites in the market include: 6105 W. Tropicana Ave.; 3186 S. Nellis Blvd.; 467 E. Silverado Ranch Blvd., and at Desert Inn and Fort Apache roads, according to the report. A 14,000-square-foot Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market is also under construction at Tropicana Avenue and Jones Boulevard, the report stated, citing industry sources.
