World's Largest Truckstop Opens
WALCOTT, Iowa -- Iowa 80, "The World's Largest Truckstop," hosted its grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, reported Display & Design Ideas (DDI), a sister publication to Convenience Store News.
WDW Design Inc. and SGGM were the firms responsible for the 22,000-square-foot addition and renovation to the first and second floor of the truckstop.
The expansion included adding a "Super Truck Showroom" with three full-size trucks and an 11 1/2-foot-high-by-63-foot-wide mural called "America the Beautiful,” which spans the side of a full-size trailer attached to one truck and displays various landmarks a traveler on Interstate 80 would see while driving across the country, DDI said.
Other features of the renovation include an 18-foot-high-by-40-foot-wide wall of lights, natural illumination, expanded gift shop, convenience store and foodcourt, and the second floor "Trucker's Loft," complete with a health clinic, barbershop, laundry room, showers, lounge and movie theater.
