Zig-Zag Launches Premium Cigarette Line
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The competitive tobacco category gained a new entrant Tuesday as North Atlantic Cigarette Co. Inc. (NACC) announced the rollout of Zig-Zag Premium Cigarette line. The new premium cigarette will be sold in king size, full favor and king-size light box styles, and will be initially available in Miami, Dallas, Los Angeles and Seattle, as well as through specialty tobacco stores and smoke shops nationwide.
David Brunson, president of North Atlantic Trading Co., the holding company for NACC, said the company is looking to capitalize the brand strength of Zig-Zag cigarette rolling papers in the market.
"Adult smokers we have interviewed in our launch markets tell us they are excited to see Zig-Zag, a long-established tobacco brand with an excellent reputation for high quality, move into the premium cigarette category," Brunson said. "Our market research indicates that Zig-Zag Premium Cigarettes will appeal to those adult smokers seeking a trusted tobacco brand name as an alternative to their current premium brand."
NACC said it would support Zig-Zag's rollout will full sales and marketing support in each of its launch markets. This support will include:
* an experienced sales team to help distributors pull through product at retail;
* merchandising teams who will support placement of point-of-sale materials in select retail outlets;
* consumer advertising and marketing initiatives through focused relevant local print media; and
* a product sampling program for adult smokers in age-restricted bars, clubs and other such venues.
"Although launching a premium cigarette brand at this time may seem challenging to many, we believe the high brand awareness and equity of the Zig-Zag tobacco name among adult smokers, coupled with the quality and taste attributes of all-natural, premium leaf tobaccos, will differentiate our product and assist in driving the future success of the Zig-Zag Premium Cigarette," Brunson said. "We are very encouraged by the enthusiastic reception which both distributors and retailers have shown for the Zig-Zag Premium Cigarette introduction."
