PDQ Reportedly Selling Off Minnesota C-stores

MIDDLETON, Wis. -- There soon could be one less convenience store operator in the Twin Cities market of Minnesota.

According to the Milwaukee-St. Paul Business Journal, Middleton, Wis.-based PDQ Food Stores Inc. has sold off or closed all but two of its c-stores in the market. The news outlet also said, citing another media report, that the retailer sold three Minnesota locations in Eden Prairie, Anoka and Minnetonka, and that several other stores in the east and south metropolitan area have either been sold or are on the market. One has reportedly closed.

PDQ's website lists only two locations in Minnesota: the first on Nicollet Court in Burnsville and the second on West County Road in St. Paul. At one time, the retailer had 11 locations in the state. According to the website, PDQ operates 11 convenience stores in the Milwaukee area; 22 stores in the Madison, Wis., area, and one in Tahoma, Calif.

Sam Jacobsen founded PDQ Food Stores Inc. in 1949. After 60 years of being in the Jacobsen family, PDQ became 100-percent employee owned in 2009.
